LIGHT PAINTING

Light Painting is a genre of long exposure photography which combines my artist practise with my photography skills and I love it.

It's also usually a self portrait as I'm taking the photo, using my special light painting tools and doing the pattern! It's quite a difficult genre, as you have to be focussing your camera usually in pretty much total darkness and it often takes many tries until I get something I'm happy with! All photos are 1 shot as taken with some editing but no multiple shots, composites or overlays etc.

I discovered light painting when I was studying for my Certificate IV in Photography at TAFE and have expanded on my skills by being lucky enough to learn from the Australian OG of light painting, the incredibly generous Denis Smith and to add to that by learning different ways of using OCF and lights from the amazing US photographer,  Seth Miranda and also a workshop by a wonderful local photographer Sue Curtis.

I have also founded local group called the Creatures of the Night Collective which is a group of local photographers, mostly women, so we can get out at night, be safe and be social.

You can see my work from the 18th September, 2026 on display for 6 weeks at the Shellharbour Marina as part of the Promenart Photography exhibition of featured local photographers.
