Bright Festival of Photography for my 2nd year.
Bright Festival of Photography – Finding Light, People, and Inspiration
The Bright Festival of Photography was more than just a weekend away — it really felt like a creative recharge and a nice reconnect with those from our little photographers 'gang' from home that had also travelled down.
The road trip down set the tone perfectly once off the highway: winding through mountain roads and lovely little towns, springtime light flickering across the windscreen, and that familiar thrill that comes before a few days of pure photography.
Bright welcomed me with its warmth and beauty — a town that feels made for photographers. Every corner seemed to hold a story: light spilling across old shopfronts, people laughing on café terraces, the rhythm of small-town life moving at its own peaceful pace. My accommodation was beautiful, calm, and even though it was in the middle of town, it felt like it was still in the countryside with all the trees around — the perfect place to unwind and reflect after a day of shooting and learning.
The festival itself was a gift. I threw myself into workshops that stretched both my technical and creative sides — experimenting with light, movement, and expression. I found myself drawn, as always, to photographing people — capturing those fleeting moments of connection, the gestures and glances that tell a story.
I also brushed up on older skills, refining how I work with performers and how I use props and light to bring emotion into an image. It reminded me how much I love working with energy, movement, and atmosphere — those little sparks that make a photograph come alive.
Being surrounded by other photographers, all passionate and curious, was incredibly inspiring. We shared ideas, encouragement, and that quiet understanding that photography is as much about feeling as it is about technique.
As I drove home, tired but full of joy, I realised how much the experience had given me — new skills, renewed confidence, and a deeper appreciation for the stories waiting to be told through my lens.
Bright truly lived up to its name: full of light, connection, and creative energy that will stay with me for a long time.
